What is 3ccd?

In a nutshell 3ccd stands for the technology used in 3ccd camcorders to separate and interpret different colors of light. In straight ccd camcorders all the light is gathered and interpreted as one, sometimes producing colors that are not as true to the original images.

By contrast a 3ccd camcorder uses a trichroic prism which splits the light into three separate colors—red, blue and green. By doing this the camcorder can more accurately interpret the colors being video taped as it does not have to “guess” at the missing data as is often the case with the single ccd camcorders.

So What Does a 3ccd Camcorder Mean for You?

Using a high quality 3ccd camcorder means your videos will be much more vivid and the colors more true to the original image. By splitting and correctly interpreting three main colors of light entering the lens the camcorder can correctly measure the amount of red, green and blue to “add” to a color and reproduce it with much more accuracy.
